Fear And Anxiety Way Out West

Ink and water on watercolor paper

The Western frontier has always presented me with the mythology of the last human cultural expansion—a venture full of hardship, violence, disaster, and destruction.  For better or for worse, the forces of nature and culture and ambition collide to create a new kind of generative moment that is destined to be returned to eventual collapse.

I subtitled this piece “Animal, Vegetable, Mineral.”
